School Magazine

Before starting our music magazine, we created a school magazine as a initial way to introduce creating magazine covers, contents pages etc, to develop our initial media skills and to avoid mistakes when making our final magazine. Using the school magazine as an preliminary task it showed me where my strengths and weaknesses would be in which I could look and and improve on before the music magazine.

When making my school magazine I kept in mind the main aspects of a appealing product including my target audience insuring I had constant checks through out to ensure it was relevant. Also the genre of the magazine being a school issue so keeping the proffessional and educational criteria. I also focused my magazine to be unisex, linking to colour scheme and photography choices.

Here shows my final magazine cover finished. I used all images from my own photography to help develop my skills before creating the main music magazine, by using sixth form pupils from around the school. There was alot of planning towards creating the school magazine including learning and developing my media skills.
We looked into types of camera shots to help with the photography of our magazine and created....
This helped me in the introduction to camera shots in media, increasing my termilogy knowledge and showing what is most appropriate for when eg a more suitable cover shot would be a medium close up.
In the image below it also shows more research done before starting our music magazine by analysing exhisting products initially looking at the specific genre of magazine that I personally would read focusing on layout, colour scheme etc.

After making our school magazine I created a slide show analysing in detail my final product and how it links or could be improoved upon when being developed into my final school piece.

After creating my school magazine I feel it was a very beneficial task to work on, as it indeed as predicted gave me an initial insight into the creation of magazines in many ways. For example things such as making a magazine relevant to a target audience or even as simple as layouts and colour schemes, expanding my creativity. This therefore gives me an advantage when starting my music magazine to ensure I create it to the best on my ability.

It also gave me the opportunity to develop my technical skills with programmes such as publisher, word and Photoshop. As all were essential in creating a realistic look for my magazine. I used Photoshop for the editing of the images to adjust or change the appearance in some way. I was already familiar with the programme however the magazine gave me an extended knowledge on it, especially when used in a journalistic way.

I was also introduced to the website www.dafont.com which again helped me to understand why existing products may use and to know it is there an can be used when making my final music piece.
